Lions Defeat Francis Marion 73-66!

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball hosted the Francis Marion Patriots today in Conference Carolinas action. The Lions took the lead early and controlled the tempo of the game throughout all four quarters to earn a 73-66 win and break the Patriot's 10 game win streak. With the win, the Lions improved to 14-7 on the season and 10-3 in the conference. 
 
In the first quarter of play, the Lions got off to a quick start, leading 12-3 at the halfway point. The Lions were 8-18 from the field and 3-6 from beyond the arc. After one, Emmanuel led the Patriots 21-15. 
 
In the second quarter, the Lions offense slowed down some, shooting 35.7% from the field. The Patriots would get within three midway through the quarter, trailing the Lions 26-23, but the Lions would go on a 5-0 run to extend their lead back up to 8. At the half, however the Patriots made things interesting, trailing by only two points 33-31. 
 
In the third, the Patriots would tie things up early at 33, but the Lions would respond with three pointers by Abby Crawford and Maddie Futch to bring their lead back up to 6. The Patriots would tie things up again at 49, but the lions would respond with two made free throws by Sydney Wyatt to give the Lions at 51-49 lead heading into the fourth quarter. 
 
In the fourth quarter, the Patriots took their first lead of the game, 52-51 but the Lions quickly responded on a layup by Makenzie Caldwell. The quarter saw several ties and lead changes, but a jumper by Abby Crawford with 3:58 to play gave the Lions the lead for good. The Lions broke the Patriots 10-game win streak to win by 7, 73-66. 
 
Abby Crawford led the Lions in scoring with 22 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Sydney Wyatt contributed 20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. 
 
Up next, the Lions will play at the University of North Greenville on Tuesday at 5PM.
