MOUNT OLIVE, NC – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team traveled to Mount Olive, NC to take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans in Conference Carolinas action. The Lions set the pace early, shooting 60% from the field in the first half and kept the momentum the rest of the way, winning 101-74. With the win, the Lions improve to 21-5 on the season and 13-2 in conference play.
The two teams started the game going back and forth, but the Lions began to pull away on an and-one play by
Kendall Latney, which gave the Lions an 11-8 advantage. The Lions lead would get up to as much as 28 in the first half. Emmanuel was 18-30 from the field (60%) in the half, and 7-13 from beyond the arc. At the half, the Lions led by 26, 46-20.
In the second half, the Lions offense kept clicking. The Lions shot 18-28 from the field (64.29%) and 10-14 from three-point range (71.4%).
Jasper Gibson led the way for the Lions, going 5-5 from three. The Lions would extend their lead to 34 mid way through the second half, and would take the game 101-74.
KJ Jones II led all scorers with 31 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
Jasper Gibson added 23 points on the night, going 7-8 from three-point range.
Kendall Latney contributed 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals while
Chris Dees added 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Young Harris to face the Mountain Lions on Wednesday at 7PM.
