Lions Beat Mount Olive in Nailbiter 59-58!

Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, NC – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Mount Olive, NC to take on the Mount Olive Trojans today in Conference Carolinas play. This game saw multiple ties and lead changes, but in the end the Lions made shots when it counted and took home a 59-58 win. With the win, the Lions improve to 15-8 overall and 11-4 in conference play.
 
In the first quarter, the two teams traded points, with the Trojans taking an early 11-5 lead, but the Lions responding to tie things up at 15. The Lions were 5-14 from the field, but made 3-4 from beyond the arc, led by Abby Crawford who made 2 of the 3 threes. After one, the Trojans led by one point, 18-17.
 
In the second quarter, the Trojans shot 9-13 from the foul line to extend their lead up to as much as six. The Lions shot 2-10 from the field in the quarter but were 5-6 from the charity stripe. At the half, the Trojans led 33-27.
 
 In the third quarter, Mount Olive started out on a run to get up by as much as 15 points, 50-35. The Lions shot 35.7% in the quarter, (5-14 from the field), and shot 100% from the foul line. After three, the Trojans led by 10, 52-42.
 
In the final quarter, the Lions tightened up on defense, allowing the Trojans just six points. Several Lions got into the scoring action in the fourth, with Sydney Wyatt, Tyasia Freeman and Makenzie Caldwell all making big shots. It was a layup by Wyatt however, with 1:14 to play that gave the Lions their first lead since 17-16 in the first quarter. The Lions held the Trojans scoreless the last minute of play, and Emmanuel came away with a 59-58 victory.
 
Wyatt led the Lions in scoring with 23 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals,2 assists and a block. Tyasia Freeman added 10 points, seven rebounds and 2 assists on the day. 
 
Next up, the Lions will travel to Young Harris on Wednesday to take on the Mountain Lions at 5PM.
