Lions Sweep Doubleheader with Augusta!

Augusta, GA – The Emmanuel Lions Softball team traveled to Augusta, GA. today to take on the Augusta Jaguars in a double header. The Jaguars got off to a quick start in game one, but the Lions battled back to take the win, 4-2. In game two, the Lions got out ahead early and controlled the pace of the game the rest of the way to take the game, 11-1
 
The Jaguars got on the board first in game one, scoring two runs on three hits in the bottom of the 1st inning to make it 2-0 Augusta. 
 
After a few scoreless innings for both teams, the Lions offense started clicking in the top of the 5th. Kinsley Goolsby got on base with a walk, and Giovanna Sardano (pinch runner) advanced to second on a single by Abigail Curry. Ellee Varner reached base on a fielder's choice (Sardano out at third), and Curry was brought home on a single by Lexi Jordan to make it 2-1 Jaguars. Jaryn Gibson kept the momentum going for the Lions with a single to left, scoring Jordan and Varner to give the Lions their first lead of the game, 3-2. 
 
In the top of the 6th, the Lions bats stayed hot. Ciara Passmore started things off with a single to center and advanced to third on a double by Isabel Harrison. Goolsby loaded the bases with a walk. Curry would hit a sacrifice fly out to center, scoring Passmore to give the Lions a 4-2 lead, which would be the final score. 
 
At the plate, Abigail Curry went 2-2 and Lexi Jordan went 2-3. Jaryn Gibson went 2-4 with 2 RBI's. 
 
On the mound, Maddie Edwards got her third win of the season, pitching a strong seven innings. She gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and struck out 3 on the day. 
 
With the win, the Lions improve to 8-10 on the season. 
 
GAME TWO 
 
In game two, the Lions got off to a fast start. Ellee Varner got on base with a walk to start things off. Lexie Jordan singled to right field, advancing Varner to 2nd. Gabby Buffington walked to load the bases for Jaryn Gibson. Gibson then walked in a run to give the Lions a 1-0 lead early. Alyssa Adams kept the momentum going to the Lions with a double that scored Jordan and Buffington to give Emmanuel a 3-0 lead. 
 
The Lions added onto their lead in the 2nd inning. Ciara Passmore walked to start the inning. Varner would then single to third base to advance Passmore to second. Lexi Jordan followed that up with a single to center field to score Passmore and give the Lions a 4-0 advantage. 
 
After a scoreless third inning for both teams, the Lions got back into the swing of things in the 4th.  Jordan's bat stayed hot with a single to center to start the inning. Gibson followed that up with a double to right to advance Jordan to third. Adams singled to score Jordan and make it 5-0 Lions. Abigail Curry got in on the action with a single to center to make it 6-0 Emmanuel. 
 
In the top of the 6th, the Lions added to their lead. Isabel Harrison started things off by blasting a homerun to give the Lions a 7-0 lead. Hannah Wright kept the momentum going with a single to left field. Ciara Passmore followed that up with a single to center to advance Wright to second. The runners advanced on a ground out to third, with Wright scoring on a wild pitch to make it 8-0 Lions. The Jaguars got on the board with a run one one hit and an error in the bottom of the 6th to make it 8-1 Lions. 
 
In the top of the 7th, the Lions responded. Gabby Buffington led the inning off with a single to left. Gibson followed that up with a double to center to advance Buffington to third. Alyssa Adams cleared the bases with a homerun to make the score 11-1, Lions which would be the final score. 
 
At the plate, Lexi Jordan was 4-5 and Alyssa Adams was 3-4. 
 
Macy Kelley got the start for the Lions and went a strong 6.2 innings. She gave up one run on three hits, striking out three.
