Lions Drop Doubleheader with #1 North Georgia

 DAHLONEGA, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Dahlonega, GA. today to face the #1 ranked University of North Georgia in a two-game series. The Lions battled against the Nighthawk in game one, falling 11-4 but the Nighthawk controlled game two winning 11-0. 
 
GAME ONE – 
 
After two scoreless innings for both teams, the Nighthawk got the action started in the third with three runs on two hits, to take a 3-0 lead. 
 
The Lions responded well in the top of the fourth. Alyssa Adams got on base with a walk, and pinch runner, Mandy Rhinehart advanced to second on a single by Abigail Curry. Isabel Harrison would load the bases with a walk. Kinsley Goolsby would hit a sacrifice fly to left field that would score Rhinehart and get the Lions on the board, 3-1. After a walk to Abby Rocco, Ellee Varner continued the action with a single to center that scored Harrison and cut the Nighthawk lead to 3-2. In the bottom of the fourth, North Georgia's bats would get cooking, scoring five runs on three hits and an error, to take an 8-2 lead.
 
In the top of the sixth, Kinsley Goolsby hit a two-run homerun to cut the Nighthawk lead to 8-4. In the bottom half of the inning, UNG scored three runs on three hits and an error, leaving two runners on base to take a 11-4 lead, which would end up being the final score.
 
At the plate, Kinsley Goolsby was 2-2 with three RBI's.
 
On the mound, Maddie Edwards pitched 3.2 innings. She gave up 8 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits. She walked 4 batters and struck out one. Haley Mullins relieved her and gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits in 1.1 innings of work. She walked one batter and struck out another. Kaitlyn Pickens closed out the game for the Lions, pitching one inning. She gave up one hit. 
 
With the loss, the Lions fall to 9-11 on the season. 
 
GAME TWO 
 
In game two, the Nighthawks got off to a fast start scoring two runs on four hits in the bottom of the first to take 2-0 lead. 
 
In the second, UNG added to their lead, scoring three runs on three hits to make it 5-0. 
 
The Nighthawk tacked on three more runs on three hits in the bottom of the third to go up 8-0.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, UNG scored three runs on two hits to make the final score 11-0. 
 
With the loss, the Lions fall to 9-12 on the season. 
 
On the mound, Macy Kelley started the game, pitching 1.1 innings. She gave up five runs on seven hits and struck out one batter. Isabel Harrison relieved her to pitch 2.2 innings. She gave up six runs on five hits and struck out three batters. 
 
Next up, the Lions will travel to Due West, SC on Wednesday, March 13 for their first Conference series against Erskine. First pitch will be at 2PM.
