Due West, SC – The Emmanuel Softball Lions were back in action today in their first Conference Carolinas match up of the season at Erskine College. The Lions faced off against the Flying Fleet in a doubleheader today, taking the first game 4-0 and winning 5-2 in game two. With the sweep, the Lions improve to 10-12 on the season, 2-0 in conference play.
GAME ONE –
The Lions got on the board in the top of the 2
nd inning.
Isabel Harrison started things off with a single and stole second.
Kinsley Goolsby brought her home with a double to left center to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
The Lions added to their lead in the top of the 5
th.
Ellee Varner got on base with a single to left center.
Gabby Buffington followed that up with a 2-run home run to make it 3-0, Lions.
In the top of the 6
th, Goolsby hit another double to get the Lions in action.
Ciara Passmore followed that up with a double of her own to score Goolsby, making the score 4-0, Lions, which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Kinsley Goolsby,
Ellee Varner, and
Isabel Harrison were all 2-3, with Goolsby hitting two doubles.
Maddie Edwards earned her 4
th win of the season, pitching 7.0 innings. She gave up just five hits and struck out four batters.
GAME TWO –
In game two, the Lions kept a hold of the momentum. Emmanuel started things off in the 2
nd inning, with
Jaryn Gibson getting walked.
Alyssa Adams followed that up with a single up the middle to advance
Mandy Rhinehart (pinch runner) to second.
Isabel Harrison singled to right to score Rhinehart and give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Kelley Feigen kept things going for the Lions with a single to right center to score Lindsey Crawford (pinch runner for Adams) and making it 2-0. Feigen and Harrison both stole a base.
Ellee Varner grounded out to shortstop to score Harrison and make it 3-0 Lions. The Flying Fleet got on the board in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs on three hits, leaving a runner on base to cut the Lions lead to 3-2.
The Lions responded with a run of their own in the top of the 3
rd on a solo home run by
Jaryn Gibson.
Gibson went yard for a second time in the game with a solo home run in the top of the 5
th inning to make it 5-2, Lions, which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Jaryn Gibson and
Alyssa Adams each went 2-3, with Gibson hitting two homers.
On the mound.
Macy Kelley earned her third win of the season, pitching a solid 7 innings. She gave up two runs on six hits and struck out four batters.
Next up, the Lions will travel to North Greenville University where they'll face the Crusaders in a doubleheader tomorrow at 2 and 4PM.
