Lions Fall to SWU 64-56

Box Score Central, SC – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Central, SC to take on the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors in their regular season finale. The Warriors got off to a quick start taking a 23-7 lead in the first quarter and controlled the pace of the game the rest of the way. The Lions fell to the Warriors by a score of 64-56. With the loss, Emmanuel falls to 16-10 on the season and 12-6 in conference. 
 
In the first quarter, the Warriors jumped out of the gate quickly taking a 10-2 lead. The Lions shot 20% in the first quarter and SWU closed out the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 23-7 lead into the second quarter.
 
In the second, Emmanuel was 3-13 from the field, but connected on 2-6 three pointers and 6-8 foul shots. Makenzie Clark and Addie Penick each hit a three in the quarter to give the Lions a bit of momentum, but the Warriors continued to shoot well and led 38-21 at the half. 
 
The Lions got things going in the third quarter, with Abby Crawford scoring 10 of her 13 points in the third. Emmanuel was 9-19 from the field (47%) and 3-9 from beyond the arc. After three, the Warriors led by just four points, 49-45.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Lions would get within three points on a jumper by Maddie Futch to make it 57-54, but SWU would finish the game on a 7-2 run to win the game, 64-56. 
 
Abby Crawford led the Lions in scoring with 13 points, 3 steals, and an assist. Sydney Wyatt had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, also adding 4 assists. Tyasia Freeman was close behind with 10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists, and a steal.
 
The Lions will now turn the page on the regular season and prepare for Conference Carolinas Tournament play which will begin for the Lions at 7PM on Sunday in the Shaw Athletic Center.
