HARTSVILLE, SC – The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Hartsville, SC to open the 2024 season up against Coker University today. The Lions competed well, but ultimately fell to the Cobras 7-4.
In the first period, the Cobras took a 1-0 lead with 4:52 to play and added to their lead early in the 2
nd period, going up 2-0.
Emmanuel responded with 4:12 to play in the 2
nd with a goal by Griffin Thomas, assisted by
Jared Weiss to make the score 2-1 in favor of Coker.
In the third period, Coker would tack on two more goals to take a 4-1 lead before Griffin Thomas scored his second goal of the day, assisted by
Ryland Laturell with 6:42 to play to make the score, 4-2.
Jared Weiss scored to make it 4-3 with 4:35 to play, assisted by
Ryley Dowswell. The Cobras would add two more goals to their lead to finish out the third period leading, 6-3.
In the fourth, the Lions would score early on a goal from
Jared Weiss, assisted by
Luke Hildebrandt to make the score 6-4, but the Cobras would close out the period with a goal, to take the win, 7-4.
Jared Weiss and
Griffin Gibson-Thomas led the Lions with two goals apiece.
Luke Hildebrandt and
Ryley Dowswell had four ground balls, while
Jared Weiss,
Ernest Hursey,
Adam Wright, and
Ethan Hildebrandt added 3 apiece.
Next up, the Lions will host Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday at 3PM.
