HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Emmanuel Lions Baseball team traveled to Huntsville, AL to participate in a tournament hosted by the University of Alabama at Huntsville. Today, the Lions took on the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans. This was the first time the two teams have met, and the Trojans got the best of the Lions 14-4. With the loss, Emmanuel falls to 2-3 on the season.
The Trojans came out strong, taking a 3-0 early after scoring a run in the first and two in the second inning of play.
After a few scoreless innings, Trevecca plated 8 runs in the fourth inning to take an 11-0 lead. The Trojans added a 12
th run in the fifth.
The Lions took advantage of a new Trojan pitcher in the sixth inning. Zack Bergstrom started the inning out with a single to center. After, both
Cooper Tomkinson and
Ryan Muniz walked to load the bases.
Dobbs Bowden brought Bergstrom home with a single to get the Lions on the board, 12-1 Trojans.
Bailey Stroud pinch hit and singled, scoring Tomkinson. Tommy Collins followed that up with a single down the right field line that scored Bowden and Muniz, cutting the Trojans lead to 12-4.
The Trojans added on two more runs in the ninth to take a 14-4 win.
At the plate,
Cooper Tomkinson went 2-2. On the mound,
Will Sherman got the start, pitching 1.2 innings, facing 9 batters. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk.
Zakk Gibbons relieved him, pitching 1.1 inning and facing 7 batters. He gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and struck out 2, walking one.
Lucas Meehan came in next, facing 6 batters. He gave up 6 runs on 5 hits.
Noah Olson relieved him, pitching 3 innings and facing 16 batters. He struck out 3, walked, 3 and gave up 2 runs on 4 hits.
Ashton Sapp was next, facing 12 batters. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits, walking 3 and striking out one.
Bubba Luke closed out the game, facing 3 batters. He had one strike out and one walk.
Next up, the Lions will take on the University of Alabama at Huntsville tomorrow at 12PM CST.
