Box Score HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Emmanuel Baseball team was in action today against the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers. The Lions got off to a quick start, plating a run in the 2
nd inning and continued their momentum throughout the game to take a 11-6 win. With the win, the Lions improve to 3-3 on the season.
After a scoreless 1
st inning,
Nick Dietsch walked to start the 2
nd inning.
Cooper Tomkinson reached on bunt, but Dietsch was thrown out at 2
nd.
Dobbs Bowden singled to left to advance Tomkinson, and
Bailey Stroud followed that up with a single, scoring Tomkinson to make the score 1-0 Lions.
In the 3
rd inning,
Brock Wollin was hit by a pitch and advanced to 2
nd on a single by
Brody Campbell.
Nick Dietsch walked to load the bases.
Ryan Muniz reached on a throwing error which scored Campbell and Wollin to make the score 3-0 Lions. The Chargers scored 4 runs on 4 hits and an error to take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third, 4-3.
Bailey Stroud started things off for the Lions in the 4
th with a single. He advanced on a walk to
Thomas Collins, and both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Wollin followed that up with a single to right field, scoring Stroud and advancing Collins to third, 4-4. Wollin then stole 2
nd and
Brody Campbell walked to load the bases. After a pitching change, a wild pitch advanced the runners, scoring Collins. Dietsch hit a fly ball to center field, scoring Wollin to make it 6-4. The inning ended with the Lions scoring 3 runs on 2 hits, leaving one on base.
In the 5
th, Muniz started things off with a single to first. He was advanced to second on a walk to
Dobbs Bowden. Stroud then reached on a fielder's choice, with Bowden advancing to 2
nd then 3
rd on a throwing error by the catcher, and Muniz scored to make it 7-4. The Chargers got an unearned run back in the 5
th on one hit and an error to make it 7-5.
The Lions started off the 6
th with a single by
Brody Campbell.
Cooper Tomkinson walked to advance Campbell to 2
nd. Muniz reached on a throwing error and advanced to 2
nd on the throw, which scored Campbell to make it 8-5 Lions.
After a scoreless 7
th inning, the Lions added to their lead in the 8
th. Campbell started off with a single up the middle, advancing on a throwing error. Dietsch followed that up with a 2-run homer to make it 10-5 Lions. Tomkinson walked and was advanced to third on a single by Muniz. Tomkinson scored on a pop fly by Bowden to make it 11-5 Emmanuel. The Chargers scored one run on one hit in the bottom half of the inning to make it 11-6 Lions.
The ninth inning was scoreless, and the Lions improved to 3-3 on the season with a 11-6 win.
At the plate,
Brody Campbell went 3-5 with
Brock Wollin,
Ryan Muniz and
Bailey Stroud each tallying 2 hits.
Colby Fields got the nod for the Lions and pitched 4 innings, facing 18 batters. He struck out 2, walked one, and gave up 5 runs on 7 hits. He was relieved by
Noah Cantleberry who pitched less than an inning. He faced three batters and struck out one.
Chase Lupton followed, pitching 1 inning, facing 6 batters and striking out one.
Barrett Barkley pitched an inning, giving up one hit. Next,
Simon Boggie came in for an inning, facing 6 batters. He gave up one run on one hit, striking out three.
Clifford Brown finished the game, facing one batter.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Limestone for a weekend series. First pitch will be Friday at 5PM.
