Lions Fall to Catawba 11-4

DAHLONEGA, GA -The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Dahlonega, Ga to compete in the Captain D's Surf & Turf Classic hosted by the University of North Georgia. In game one of the day, the Lions faced Catawba College. Catawba got off to a quick start offensively and the Lions fell, 11-4. With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-4 on the season. 
 
After a scoreless first inning for the Lions, the Indians scored seven runs on three hits, leaving one on base. 
 
The Indians added to their lead in the bottom of the 2nd, scoring one run on three hits and leaving three on base, to make it 8-0.
 
The Lions started their comeback in the third inning. Aggie Bennett started things off with a single. Ciara Passmore followed that up with a single to advance Bennett to second. Ellee Varner grounded out to third to advance the runners, and Jaryn Gibson cleared the bases with a home-run, to make the score 8-3. Alyssa Adams hit a home-run of her own to bring the Lions within three, 8-4. 
 
The Indians added to their lead in the bottom of the 4th with three runs on two hits and an error, to make the score 11-4 Catawba. 
 
The two teams would remain scoreless the rest of the way, and the Indians defeated the Lions 11-4. 
 
At the plate, Jaryn Gibson went 3-4 with a home-run.
 
On the mound, Kaitlyn Pickens got the start and faced 6 batters, allowing 6 runs on 1 hit and 5 walks. Haley Mullins relieved her and faced 21 batters. She pitched 3.1 innings, striking out two, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks. Isabel Harrison closed out the game, pitching 2.2 innings, striking out one and not allowing a hit.
