DAHLONEGA, GA -The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Dahlonega, Ga to compete in the Captain D's Surf & Turf Classic hosted by the University of North Georgia. In game one of the day, the Lions faced Catawba College. Catawba got off to a quick start offensively and the Lions fell, 11-4. With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-4 on the season.
After a scoreless first inning for the Lions, the Indians scored seven runs on three hits, leaving one on base.
The Indians added to their lead in the bottom of the 2
nd, scoring one run on three hits and leaving three on base, to make it 8-0.
The Lions started their comeback in the third inning.
Aggie Bennett started things off with a single.
Ciara Passmore followed that up with a single to advance Bennett to second.
Ellee Varner grounded out to third to advance the runners, and
Jaryn Gibson cleared the bases with a home-run, to make the score 8-3.
Alyssa Adams hit a home-run of her own to bring the Lions within three, 8-4.
The Indians added to their lead in the bottom of the 4
th with three runs on two hits and an error, to make the score 11-4 Catawba.
The two teams would remain scoreless the rest of the way, and the Indians defeated the Lions 11-4.
At the plate,
Jaryn Gibson went 3-4 with a home-run.
On the mound,
Kaitlyn Pickens got the start and faced 6 batters, allowing 6 runs on 1 hit and 5 walks.
Haley Mullins relieved her and faced 21 batters. She pitched 3.1 innings, striking out two, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks.
Isabel Harrison closed out the game, pitching 2.2 innings, striking out one and not allowing a hit.
