FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA- The Emmanuel Baseball team hosted Anderson University today in regional action. The Lions got off to a fast start, but Anderson scored six-runs in the second inning and the Lions comeback fell short, dropping the midweek game, 6-5. With the loss, the Lions drop to 11-10 on the season.
The Lions got on the board first with a solo home-run by
Hayden Beall in the bottom of the 1
st to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the 2
nd, the Trojans answered back, scoring six runs on six hits, leaving one runner on base making it 6-1, Trojans.
After a few scoreless innings for both teams, Emmanuel responded in the bottom of the 4
th.
Zachary Bergstrom got on base after getting hit by a pitch and was brought home on a double by
Ryan Muniz, to cut the Trojans lead to 6-2.
It was a pitchers duel the rest of the way, with neither team getting anything going until the 8
th inning. In the bottom half of the inning, the Lions got to work.
Brody Campbell walked to start the inning, advancing to second on a balk. Bergstrom hit into a fielder's choice, with Campbell getting thrown out at second. The Trojans then gave up two walks to load the bases for
Brock Wollin. Wollin doubled to clear the bases and get the Lions within one run of the lead, 6-5.
There was nothing going for either team in the 9
th, and the Trojans came away with a 6-5 victory.
On the mound,
Lucas Meehan got the start and pitched 1.1 innings. He gave up 6 runs on 5 hits and struck out one.
Eli Roach relieved him, facing five batters. He gave up two hits and struck out one.
Bubba Luke came in next for the Lions, facing six batters. He walked two and struck out one.
Noah Cantleberry pitched the next 3.2 innings, striking out three.
Simon Boggie relieved him to pitch the 8
th inning and struck out one batter.
Clifford Brown closed the game out for the Lions striking out one.
Next up, the Lions will travel to UNC Pembroke for a conference series against the Braves which will start on Friday, March 8 at 6PM.
