Franklin Springs, Ga – The Emmanuel Softball team hosted Belmont Abbey College today for Senior Day. The Lions got off to a fast start in game one, scoring 4 runs in the 2
nd inning and took the game 9-3. The Lions continued their dominant play in game two, winning 7-1. With the sweep, the Lions improve to 29-22 on the season, 15-9 in conference play.
GAME ONE-
The Lions got on the board first in game one.
Jaryn Gibson got things started in the bottom of the 2
nd with a single.
Isabel Harrison followed that up with a walk to advance
Shelby Aiken (pinch runner for Gibson) to 2
nd.
Kelley Feigen doubled to right to score Aiken, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Gabby Buffington kept things going with a bases clearing home-run to make it 4-0, Lions.
Belmont Abbey scored two runs on three hits in the top of the 3rd to make the score 4-2, Lions. The Lions answered back in the bottom half of the inning quickly.
Alyssa Adams doubled to center field to start things off. Harrison singled to left, scoring Adams on an error to make it 5-2, Lions. Feigen hit a sacrifice fly that scored Harrison to make it 6-2, Emmanuel.
In the bottom of the 4
th, the Lions offense stayed hot.
Aggie Bennett singled to center to start things off.
Lexi Jordan singled and then Adams cleared the bases with a home-run to make it 9-2.
In the top of the 6
th Belmont Abbey scored a run on two hits to make the final score 9-3, Emmanuel.
At the plate,
Alyssa Adams went 2-3 with 3 RBIS.
On the mound,
Maddie Edwards got the start and threw 7.0 innings. She gave up 3 runs on 6 hits and struck out a batter.
GAME TWO
The Lions kept the momentum going into game two of the series.
In the bottom of the 1
st,
Ellee Varner got things started with a single.
Lexi Jordan singled to right, and Varner advanced to 3
rd base on an error.
Alyssa Adams grounded out, scoring Varner to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 2
nd.
Kelley Feigen got things started with a triple to right.
Gabby Buffington reached on a fielder's choice, advancing to 2
nd.
Kinsley Goolsby walked to load the bases, and
Aggie Bennett reached on a fielder's choice, with Feigen getting thrown out at home.
Hannah Wright singled to center to score Buffington and Goolsby to give the Lions a 3-0 lead. Bennett scored on a ground out to make it 4-0.
There was nothing going for either team until the Lions bats got back in action in the bottom of the 4
th. Bennett started things off with a single. Jordan singled to center and
Alyssa Adams hit her second long-ball of the day to make it 7-0, Lions.
The Crusaders scored a run on three hits in the top of the 7
th to make the final score 7-1, Lions.
At the plate,
Jaryn Gibson was 2-3.
On the mound,
Macy Kelley got the start. She threw 7.0 innings, giving up one run on seven hits and striking out four batters.
