DUNCAN, SC – The Emmanuel Women's Softball team faced Southern Wesleyan this afternoon in an elimination game of the Conference Carolina's Tournament. The Lions got off to a fast start, scoring five runs in the first inning and held on for a 10-4 win! With the win, the Lions improve to 31-23 on the season.
The Lions bats got started early in the bottom of the 1
st.
Ellee Varner reached on an error by the shortstop and
Jaryn Gibson hit a double to right field to bring her home, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Kelley Feigen kept things going with a single to score Gibson to make it 2-0. Feigen advanced to 2
nd on a wild pitch and
Isabel Harrison kept the momentum in the Lions corner with a single to score Feigen, making it 3-0, Lions.
Gabby Buffington reached via walk and
Kinsley Goolsby followed that up with a single up the middle to score Harrison.
Aggie Bennett singled to score Buffington to give the Lions a 5-0 lead at the end of the first.
Southern Wesleyan answered back scoring two run on two hits in the top of the 2
nd to make the score 5-2, Emmanuel.
In the top of the 3
rd, the Warriors made things interesting scoring two runs on two hits to bring the score to 5-4, Lions.
There was nothing going until the bottom of the 4
th, when the Lions bats got back in action.
Lexi Jordan singled to left to get things started.
Jaryn Gibson singled up the middle to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd for Feigen. Feigen took advantage hitting a double through the the left side to score Jordan, giving the Lions a 6-4 lead. Harrison singled through the right side to score two runs and make it 8-4, Lions.
In the bottom of the 6
th, the Lions added two more runs to their lead.
Alyssa Adams reached on an error and Feigen singled through the left side to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd for Buffington. Buffington took advantage, hitting a triple to left center to score two runs and make the final score 10-4, Lions.
At the plate,
Kelley Feigen was 4-4 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored.
On the mound,
Maddie Edwards got the start. She pitched 3 innings and gave up 4 runs on 4 hits. She struck out four batters and walked four.
Macy Kelley came in to relieve her, pitching 4 innings. She gave up one hit and struck out four batters.
