DUNCAN, SC – The Emmanuel Softball Lions played their second game of the day against The University of Mount Olive in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Lions took the lead early and controlled the pace of the game the rest of the way, shutting out the Trojans 8-0. With the win, the Lions improve to 31-23 on the season.
The Lions got on the board in the 1
st inning against the Trojans.
Ellee Varner started things off with a single and
Jaryn Gibson doubled to left to score her and give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
There was nothing going for either team until the top of the 4
th. Gibson reached on a walk to start the inning and
Alyssa Adams reached on a fielder's choice, with the put out at 2
nd.
Kelley Feigen kept things going with a single to right and
Isabel Harrison singled, advancing to 2
nd on a error by the center fielder.
Shelby Aiken (pinch runner) scored on the play to make it 2-0, Lions. Feigen scored on a sacrifice fly to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the 5
th, the Lions kept things going. Varner walked to start the inning.
Lexi Jordan reached on a fielder's choice, with Varner getting thrown out at 2
nd. Gibson singled to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd for
Alyssa Adams. Adams took advantage hitting a 3-run home-run to double the Lion's lead, 6-0.
The Lions added two more runs in the top of the 7
th. Jordan singled up the middle and Gibson smacked a double to left field to score Jordan, making it 7-0. Gibson advanced to 3
rd on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to give the Lions an 8-0 lead, which would end of being the final score.
At the plate,
Jaryn Gibson was 3-3 and
Alyssa Adams was 3-4.
On the mound,
Macy Kelley got the start going 2.2 innings. She gave up 1 hit and struck out 2 batters.
Maddie Edwards relieved her and pitched the rest of the way, striking out 2 batters and walking 2.
Next up, the Lions will play Barton College at 12PM tomorrow to move on in the Conference Carolinas tournament.
