Duncan, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team continued play in the Conference Carolinas tournament today with a game against Barton College. It was a close game early, with both teams scoring a run in the second inning but the Lions would use a 5-run 6
th inning to move on in the tournament with an 8-1 victory. With the win, the Lions improve to 33-23 on the season.
Barton got on the board first in the 2
nd inning scoring a run on two hits to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions answered back quickly with a homerun by
Alyssa Adams to tie things up at 1-1.
After a scoreless 3
rd inning, the Lions bats got back in action in the bottom of the 4
th. Adams doubled to start the inning and
Kelley Feigen followed that up with a double of her own to score
Ciara Passmore (pinch runner) and make it 2-1, Lions. Feigen would score on a ground out to give the Lions a 3-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the 6
th, the Lions added to their lead. Adams singled to left to start things off. Feigen singled up the middle and
Isabel Harrison singled to left to score Adams, making it 4-1 Lions.
Gabby Buffington walked to load the bases again for
Abby Rocco. Rocco singled to right to score two runs, giving the Lions a 6-1 lead.
Ellee Varner singled to left to score Buffington and Rocco to give the Lions an 8-1 lead, which would end of being the final score.
At the plate,
Alyssa Adams was 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
On the mound,
Maddie Edwards pitched a complete game throwing 7 innings. She gave up one run on four hits and struck out four batters.
The Lions moved onto face #2 seed, North Greenville University with the winner earning a trip to the Championship game.
