Franklin Springs, Ga – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team hosted Barton College today in conference action. The Lions got off to a quick start, winning the first two sets, 25-13, 25-18. Barton answered back to take the final three, 25-20, 25-22, 19-17. With the loss, the Lions fall to 9-18 overall, 3-10 in conference.
The Lions got off to a quick start in the first set, using several mini runs to take a 10-6 lead. The Lions would use a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 15-8 midway through the set. The Lions would finish the set on a 10-5 run to earn the first set win, 25-13.
In the second set, the Bulldogs got off to a fast start, getting up 4-0 quickly. The Lions responded with a 5-0 run of their own to take a 8-6 lead. A 6-0 run by the Lions midway through the set would extend their lead to 17-12. The Bulldogs would respond, but the Lions closed the door to win the set, 25-18.
In set three, the Bulldogs held onto a lead from the start, extending it to as much as 6 points, at 21-15, but the Lions would respond to get within three points of the lead, 23-20. Barton would score the final two points to close out the set, 25-20.
In the fourth set, the Lions would get up early on a 4-0 run to take an 8-5 lead. The Bulldogs would respond with a 6-0 run of their own to go up, 12-9. The Lions tied things up at 13-13, but Barton would pull away leading by as much as four points, 20-16. The Lions would respond to get within two points of the lead, but the Bulldogs scored the final point to win the set, 25-22.
The fifth and final set was back and forth. The Lions got up early, 4-1 and maintained the lead or a tie for the majority of the set. The Bulldogs however, took a 18-17 lead late and held on to take the set, 19-17 and the match 3-2.
Overall, the Lions had 69 kills, 6 aces, 12 blocks, 68 assists and 72 digs.
Eli Zdonek had a program high 34 kills, with
Aidan Feeney adding 19. Zdonek and
Andrew Michael each had 2 aces on the day.
Arturo Diaz-Dube contributed 7 blocks on the night, with
Abdallah Roshdy adding 5 and
Greg Bodus had 3. Roshdy also had 58 of the Lions 68 assists, with Nick Eichenberger adding 9. Eichenberger also had a program high 27 digs on the day for the Lions.
Next up, the Lions will host North Greenville on April 11 at 7PM for a White Out to close out the season.
