Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball Lions were back in action today with a Conference Carolinas doubleheader matchup against Erskine College. The Lions jumped out to an early lead to take game one, 7-5 but fell 3-2 to the Flying Fleet in game two. The Lions record now stands at 21-20 overall, 8-8 in conference play.
GAME ONE –
The Lions got off to a quick start in game one, scoring three runs in the bottom of the 1
st.
Alyssa Adams started things off with a single to left.
Jaryn Gibson followed that up with a single to left and
Isabel Harrison cleared the bases with a 3-run home run to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
The score stayed that way until the top of the 5
th when the Flying Fleet scored five runs on five hits to make it 5-3, Erskine.
In the bottom of the 6
th, the Lions answered back. Harrison started with a walk and
Gabby Buffington brought her home with a 2-run home run to tie things at 5-5.
The Lions would take the lead in the bottom of the 7
th.
Lexi Jordan got on base with a walk and Gibson homered to center field to give the Lions the win, 7-5.
At the plate,
Alyssa Adams and
Kelley Feigen were both 2-3.
On the mound,
Maddie Edwards got the start, pitching a complete 7 innings. She gave up 5 runs on 7 hits, striking out 7 and walking one batter to earn her 11
th win of the season.
GAME TWO
Emmanuel got on the board first in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 2
nd.
Jaryn Gibson started things off with a single to center.
Isabel Harrison reached on a fielder's choice, with Lindsey Crawford (pinch runner for Gibson) advancing to 2
nd.
Gabby Buffington reached on a fielder's choice, with Crawford getting thrown out at 3
rd.
Hannah Wright reached on an error to load the bases, and
Kinsley Goolsby grounded out to 2
nd base to score Harrison, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Kyna Cheney reached on a fielder's choice to score Buffington to make it 2-0, Lions.
Erskine got a run back in the top of the 3rd, scoring a run on one hit to make it 2-1, Lions.
The score stayed that way until the top of the 6
th, when the Flying Fleet scored two runs on three hits to make it 3-2, which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Jaryn Gibson and
Aggie Bennett each recorded a hit.
On the mound,
Macy Kelley got the nod, going 5.2 innings. She gave up 3 runs on 4 hits and struck out 5 batters, walking 1.
Isabel Harrison came in to relieve her and pitched the final 1.1 innings. She gave up one hit.
