HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team began play in the UAH Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama-Huntsville with a tough test against #12 Ferris State University. The Bulldogs got off to a fast start and would go onto take the match in three sets, 25-13, 25-21, 25-16. With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-3 on the early season.
In the first set, the Bulldogs started strong taking an early 9-3 lead. The Lions would respond to make it 13-8 on a kill by
Sami Gambill, but Ferris State answer. The #12 ranked, Bulldogs finished the set on a 12-5 run to take set one, 25-13.
In the second set, the Lions took an early 5-1 lead. Ferris State would tie things up at 11-11, The two teams would trade points until the Bulldogs pulled away, 19-15. Although the Lions kept the set competitive, Ferris State would go onto win, 25-21.
In the third set, the Bulldogs took an early 7-3 lead. Ferris State would go on several runs throughout the set to maintain the lead and finished the set, 21-16 to take the game, 3-0.
The Lions ended the game with 30 kills, 3 aces, 6 blocks, 28 assists, and 29 digs.
Ellie Jackson led the way for the Lions with 9 kills, with
Emily Hanson and
Jocelyn Martin contributing 7 a piece. Hanson,
Cailin Pritchard and
Brianna Bigelow each had 3 blocks in the game. Brice also led the Lions in assists with 13.
Next, the Lions will face Harding University at 3:30PM in their second game of the UAH Invitational.
