Huntsville, AL – The Emmanuel Volleyball team faced Harding University this afternoon in the UAH Invitational hosted by University of Alabama – Huntsville. The Bisons started out strong with a 25-13 win in the first set, but Emmanuel would respond to take set two, 25-19. Harding would close things out winning the final two sets, 25-16, 25-20 to take the game, 3-1. With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-4 on the early season.
The first set started out competitively with the two teams trading points. A 9-0 run by the Bison would give Harding a 16-7 lead. The Bison would go on a 5-0 run to close out the set, 25-13.
In the second set, the Lions would go on a 7-0 run of their own to take an early lead, 11-4. The Bison would respond to get within two points on a few occasions, but the Lions held them, finishing out the set 25-19.
The Bison would take an early 7-2 lead to start off the third set. A 4-0 run would help Harding expand their lead to 15-7. The Lions would go on a 3-0 run of their own to end the set, but the Bison would take it 25-17.
In the fourth set, the Lions would go up 5-1 early. The Bison would tie things up at 7-7, taking their first lead of the set at 9-8. The Lions would get back within two points of the lead on a few occasions, but the Bison would score the final three points of the set to win it, 25-20 taking the game, 3-1.
Overall, the Lions had 39 kills, 9 aces, 4 blocks, 32 assists, and 57 digs.
Jocelyn Martin led the Lions with 13 kills with
Emily Hanson contributing 9.
Amore Marshall finished the night with 3 aces, with
Layla Bland and
Ellie Jackson adding 2 each.
Hanson and
Alaina Emminger ended the game with two blocks a piece. Freshman,
Sami Gambill had 18 assists on the night, with
Morgan Brice and
Isabella Reyes each collecting 10 digs.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow with games against Tusculum at 1:15PM and University of Alabama – Huntsville at 5:45PM.
