GREENWOOD, SC – The Emmanuel Lions Volleyball team traveled to Greenwood, SC to take on Lander in a regional matchup. The Lions kept each set competitive, but the Bearcats would defend their home court with a 3-0 win, (25-18, 25-19, 27-25). With the loss, the Lions fall to 5-6 on the season.
The Lions would take an early lead in set one, 4-2 but Lander would answer back with a 7-0 run to take the lead, 9-4. The Lions would force an attack error to get within three points of the lead, 14-11, but Lander would respond with another 6-0 run to make it, 20-11. The Bearcats would close out the set, 25-18.
The second set saw multiple lead changes early, but the Lions would use a 4-0 run including three kills, to take a 8-5 lead. The two teams would trade points until Lander would take the lead for good at 16-15. The Lions would get within four points of the lead, but Lander would take the set 25-19.
The third set was another competitive one. The two teams would trade the lead until a 3-0 run by Lander gave the Bearcats a 17-14 lead. A kill by
Alaina Emminger would tie things up at 20, and another kill by
Layla Bland would give the Lions a 25-24 lead. But, the Bearcats would score three straight points to take the set, 27-25 and the match 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 34 kills, 5 aces, 6 blocks, 34 assists and 69 digs.
Ellie Jackson led the way in multiple categories, with 13 kills and 16 digs.
Asia Queen and
Cailin Pritchard each had two aces on the night, with Pritchard adding four blocks.
Sami Gambill had 14 assists on the night.
