SAN ANGELO, TX – After a short turnaround, the Lions continued play today in the 2024 Kathleen Brasfield Invitational against the University of Texas Permian Basin. The Falcons came out focused and defeated the Lions in straight sets, 25-15, 25-19, 25-17. With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-1 on the early season.
The first set was back-and-forth to start, but the Falcons went on a 5-0 run to take a 19-11 lead and outscored the Lions 6-4 the rest of the way to take the set, 25-15.
The second set saw several runs, with the Lions taking an early 8-4 lead on 4-point run. The Falcons responded with a 6-point run of their own to take the lead, 10-8. There were several ties and lead changes the rest of the way, but the Falcons closed out the set on a 5-0 run to win it, 25-19.
In the third set, the Falcons took an early 9-3 lead. The Lions would get with four points of the lead, but the Falcons would have an answer. Texas Permian Basin finished the third set with a 25-17 win, taking the match 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 27 kills, 5 aces, 4 blocks, 24 assists, and 40 digs.
Emily Hanson led the way for the Lions with 6 kills and 3 blocks.
Jocelyn Martin also collected 6 kills on the afternoon.
Amore Marshall,
Asia Queen and
Ellie Jackson each collected aces in the match.
Morgan Brice led the team with 11 assists, and Marshall added 11 digs.
The Lions will be back in action tonight at 7PM to close out the tournament against host, Angelo State.
