Quincy, IL – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team traveled to Quincy, IL this weekend to compete in the QU Invite hosted by Quincy University. Today, the Lions faced the Rockhurst University Hawks. The Lions battled but ultimately fell to the Hawks in three sets, 25-18, 25-18, 25-12. With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-5 on the early season.
In the first set, the two teams were evenly matched, with the Hawks earning 14 kills to the Lions 13. The Hawks jumped out to a 6-3 lead early and continued to control the pace of the set with a 6-0 run to make it 17-8. The Lions responded well with kills by
Aidan Feeney and
Andrew Michael to cut the Hawks lead to 20-15, but Rockhurst would close out the set strong to take it 25-18.
The Hawks continued their momentum into the second set, jumping out to an early 5-1 lead. A few forced attack errors by the Hawks and a kill by Feeney helped the Lions cut the Rockhurst lead to 10-7 midway through the set. The Hawks responded well with a 3-0 run to make it 13-7 and they continued to play well increasing their lead to 20-11. A 3-0 run by the Lions late, capped off with a kill by
Andrew Michael made things interesting, but the Hawks closed out the set with a kill to take it 25-18.
In the third set, the Hawks took an early 7-4 lead and continued on a 3-0 run to make it 11-5. The Lions responded with a 4-0 run of their own, including kills by
Oliwer Wrobel,
Ed-Verian Basson, and a service ace by Basson to make it 11-9. The Hawks would close the set out on a 13-2 run to take it 25-12 and win the game 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 27 kills, 4 blocks, 1 ace, 23 assists, and 24 digs.
Andrew Michael led the way with 8 kills, while
Aidan Feeney had 5.
Ed-Verian Basson had the Lions only ace of the night, while
Carlos Guerrero,
Greg Bodus, and
Aedan Vanegas each had a block.
Oliwer Wrobel led the team with 21 assists, and
Josh Staehler picked up 9 digs.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow with games against Missouri S&T at 1PM and Quincy University at 6PM.
