QUINCY, IL – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team traveled to Quincy University to take part in the QU Invite this weekend. Today, the Lions squared off against the Miners of Missouri S&T. The Lions battled in each set, but the Miners came away with a 3-0 win, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23. With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-6 on the season.
In the first set, the two teams traded points and the lead early. A 3-0 run by the Lions, including a kill by
Andrew Michael and service ace by
Aidan Feeney helped the Lions take an 8-5 lead, but the Miners responded to tie things up at 8-8. After being tied at 10, the Miners took the lead and led the rest of the way. The Lions kept the set within a point until the final point, when a Miners kill gave Missouri S&T a 25-23 set one victory.
The second set started just like the first, with several ties and lead changes. A kill by
Carlos Guerrero gave the Lions a 6-4 lead, but the Miners responded to tie things at 8. The two teams traded points until late when the Miners used a 4-0 run to take a 3-point lead, 18-15. Kills by Feeney, Michael, and
Thijs Van der Wal kept the Lions close, but the Miners earned a set two win, 25-22.
In set three, both teams made plays to keep the set close. Kills by Feeney and a service ace by
Andrew Michael gave Emmanuel a 9-6 lead, but the Miners answered back to get within one point, 9-8. The Lions forced three errors to make it 12-8 and held onto the lead, using kills by Guerrero, Feeney and Van der Wal to hold the Miners at bay. A service ace by Michael gave the Lions their biggest lead in the set at, 20-15, but the Miners used a 6-1 run to tie things at 21. Missouri S&T closed the set out strong to win set three, 25-23 and earn a 3-0 victory.
Overall, the Lions had 37 kills, 33 assists, 3 aces, 8 blocks and 45 digs.
Aidan Feeney led the Lions with 11 kills, while
Carlos Guerrero had 10.
Oliwer Wrobel led the team with 25 assists and
Andrew Michael picked up 2 aces. Michael had 3 blocks on the afternoon, with Guerrero and Feeney each having 2 a piece. Wrobel led the team in digs with 12.
The Lions will be back in action tonight at 6PM EST to close out play at the QU Invite against host, Quincy University.
