Lions Fall to Chowan 74-72

Murfreesboro, NC – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team traveled to Murfreesboro, NC to take on the Chowan University Hawks in conference play this afternoon. The two teams were evenly matched early, with the Lions taking a 37-30 lead into halftime. A late run by the Hawks, led by 32 points by Dylan Askew would help Chowan earn the nailbiter victory, 74-72. With the loss, the Lions fall to 8-7 on the season, 6-1 in conference play.
 
The Hawks jumped out to a 7-2 lead early in the first, but the Lions responded well to take a 13-11 lead on a three by Kendall Latney with 12:45 to play in the first. The Lions were cooking early from three-point range, with four straight makes by Chris Dees, Elisee Ehuie, and Devin Story to push the Lions lead to 14, 27-13 midway through the first. In the first half, the Lions were 13-26 from the field (50%) and 7-15 (46%) from three-point range. At the break, the Lions led Chowan, 37-30.
 
After the half, the Hawks cut the Lions lead to four, 43-39 on a three by Askew. The Lions held onto the lead for much of the second half, with Chowan tying things at 60-60 with 5:23 to play. A three by Askew with 4:30 to play gave the Hawks their first lead since early in the first, 63-62, and the two teams traded points and the lead the rest of the way. In the end, a layup by Askew with three seconds to play gave the Hawks the 74-72 win.
 
Four Lions ended the night in double figures scoring, with Kendall Latney leading the way with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Chris Dees contributed 18 points, connecting on 4-6 from three-point range. Tavarus Webb added 11 points and 7 assists on the night, while Elisee Ehuie had 10 points and a blocked shot.
