Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team hosted Belmont Abbey College this afternoon in conference play. The Lions jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set, 25-12. Emmanuel carried the momentum the rest of the way, winning set two, 25-11 and closing out the game with a 25-20 win in set three to earn the sweep. With the win, the Lions improve to 12-5 on the season, 9-1 in conference play.
The Lions jumped out to an early 6-1 lead with kills by
Cailin Pritchard,
Ellie Jackson and
Brooke Lee. A 4-0 run pushed the Lions lead to 12-4 on kills by Jackson and
Isabella Reyes and an ace by Jackson. The Lions got up by 10 points late in the set, 20-10 and closed out the set strong on a 5-0 run to earn a 25-12 win in the first set.
The Lions carried their momentum into set two, starting things off with a 9-1 run, made up of kills by Pritchard, Lee, Jackson and a service ace by
Sami Gambill.
Marusa Pesut had an ace of her own to push the Lions lead to 11-2. Another 6-1 run by the Lions late through the set pushed their lead to 19-6, but the Crusaders responded with a 3-0 run of their own to make it 19-10, Lions. The Lions closed out the set strong again to earn a 25-11 win in the 2
nd.
The Crusaders responded well in set three, with the two teams trading points and the lead early. The Lions pulled ahead, 10-7 on kills by
Natalie Wilson but Belmont Abbey scored the next two points to pull within a point, 10-9. The Lions roared back with a 5-0 run to pull ahead 15-9, but Belmont Abbey used a 3-0 run to make it 15-12, Lions. The Lions responded well, with kills by
Emberlynn Lee and
Brianna Bigelow to make it 18-12, Lions. A 4-0 run for the Crusaders late in the set, made it 22-20 Lions. Emmanuel closed out the set with a kill by
Maryn Barrow and an error by the Crusaders to earn the 25-20 set win and the 3-0 sweep.
Overall, the Lions had 35 kills, 12 aces, 7 blocks, 32 assists and 35 digs.
Ellie Jackson led the team in kills with 10, with
Sami Gambill contributing 4 aces on the afternoon. Jackson and
Cailin Pritchard each had 4 blocks in the match, with
Marusa Pesut adding 30 assists. Jackson had 13 digs to lead the team, with
Asia Queen adding 9.
The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Central, SC to play Southern Wesleyan at 7PM.
