Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Soccer team hosted Southern Wesleyan tonight in conference action. The matchup was a defensive battle from the start, but a 2
nd half goal by
Ignacio Doldan and a huge save from goalkeeper,
Bryan Amezcua helped the Lions come away with a 1-0 victory. With the win, Emmanuel improves to 4-6-1 overall, 4-3-1 in conference play.
The first half of play was competitive, with neither team finding the net. The Warriors outshot the Lions 5-2 in the half, with 3 corner kicks. Emmanuel reserve goalkeeper,
Bryan Amezcua started tonight's match and came up big with a save in the half to keep the game knotted at 0-0 heading into the break.
The Lions made adjustments heading into the 2
nd half and it quickly paid off as
Ignacio Doldan found the net early at 54:20 on a penalty kick to give Emmanuel a 1-0 lead. The Warriors outshot the Lions 9-4 in the half, with 3 shots on goal. Amezcua came up big with three saves including a top play late to help the Lions come away with a 1-0 victory.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Due West, SC to take on Erskine College on October 15 at 3:30PM.
