Lions Fall to UNC Pembroke 73-52

PEMBROKE, NC – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Pembroke, NC to face the UNC Pembroke Braves in conference action. After a close first quarter of play, the Braves began to control the pace of the game and earned a 73-52 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 7-13 overall, 6-7 in conference play.
 
The first quarter saw the Lions jump out to an early 8-4 lead with jumpers by Maddie Futch, Abby Crawford, Naomi Roberts and Ade'Jah James. The Braves quickly tied things up at 8, but a three-pointer by Crawford put the Lions back out ahead, 15-12. In the first quarter, the Lions were 6-11 (54%) from the field and held the Braves to 35% shooting. 
 
The Braves offense started clicking in the second quarter. Early in the quarter, a 7-0 run by UNCP gave the Braves a 22-15 lead. The Braves closed out the quarter on a 10-0 run to take a 16-point lead into the break, 38-22.
 
The Braves continued their scoring run into the third quarter, until a jumper by James got the Lions back in action to make the score, 47-24 with 5:40 to play in the quarter. The Lions were 7-19 (37%) from the field and 2-3 from the foul line in the quarter.  Big plays by James, Futch and Roberts helped the Lions cut the Braves lead to 13 to end the quarter trailing, 51-38.  
 
In the fourth, the Braves outscored the Lions 22-14, shooting 70% from the field. The Lions were 6-16 from the field (38%). The Braves led by as much as 23 in the quarter, earning a 73-52 victory.
 
Four Lions ended the afternoon in double figures scoring. Abby Crawford led the way with 11 points, while Ade'Jah James, Naomi Roberts, and Maddie Futch each contributed 10 points. Futch led the Lions in rebounds with 8, while Crawford had 4 assists.
