Anderson, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Anderson, SC for a doubleheader this afternoon against Anderson University. The Trojans took game one, 5-0 and followed that up with a competitive game two, which ended with the Trojans earning a 9-7 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-4 on the early season.
GAME ONE
After a scoreless top of the 1
st, the Trojans scored 5 runs on 4 hits in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-0 lead.
The two teams remained scoreless the rest of the way in a defensive battle. There was a total of 39 putouts in the game. The Trojans outhit the Lions 5-3.
At the plate,
Gabby Buffington,
Reagan Garrett and
Aggie Bennett each recorded a hit. On the mound,
Cassidy Jenkins got the nod. She went 6.0 innings and gave up 5 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits. She struck out 6 batters and walked 2.
GAME TWO
The Lions bats responded well in game two.
Ellee Varner started things off well with a single, advancing to 2
nd on a groundout.
Jaryn Gibson followed that up with a 2-run shot to score Varner, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 1
st, the Trojans answered back with 4 runs on 3 hits to take a 4-2 lead.
After a scoreless 2
nd inning for the Lions, the Trojans added a run on two hits in the bottom of the 2
nd to make the score 5-2, Trojans.
The Lions got back to work in the top of the 3
rd.
Gabby Buffington homered to cut the Trojans lead to 5-3. Gibson followed that up with a single down the left field line.
Reagan Garrett walked to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd, and
Aggie Bennett singled to score Gibson to make it 5-4, Trojans.
The Lions tied things up in the top of the 5
th on Gibson's second homerun of the game.
In the top of the 6
th, the Lions retook the lead. Varner started things off with a walk.
Arlie Gooden walked to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd, then the runners stole a base to put Varner into scoring position. Gibson singled to center field to score both runners, putting the Lions up 7-5. The Trojans retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning scoring 4 runs on 4 hits and 2 errors to make the final score 9-7.

Jaryn Gibson was a perfect 4-4 with 2 homeruns and 5 RBIs. On the mound,
Carly Forrester got the nod, going 6.0 innings. She gave up 9 runs (6 earned) on 11 hits and walked 1 batter.
