Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team hosted Erskine College tonight in conference action. The game was competitive, with both teams making key plays but the Flying Fleet came away with a 3-0 victory, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20. With the loss, the Lions fall to 1-14 on the season, 0-5 in conference play.
The two teams traded points and the lead to start off the first set. Erskine pulled away 10-6 midway through the set but the Lions responded scoring the next two points to make it 11-8. Erskine answered back with a 6-1 run to make it 16-9. The Lions went on a run late with kills by
Thijs Van der Wal and
Aidan Feeney, but the Flying Fleet held on to win set one, 25-18.
Set two started with several ties and lead changes, with key plays by
Lucas Nieves and
Andrew Michael. Erskine pulled away midway through the set to make it 15-10, but the Lions responded with kills by Nieves and
Oliwer Wrobel to cut the lead to 20-16. The Flying Fleet closed the set out strong to win 25-19.
In set three, Erskine took an early 9-4 lead but kills by Nieves and Van der Wal cut the Fleet's lead to 11-8. Erskine would pull ahead 17-12 midway through the set, but kills by Michael, Nieves and a service ace by Michael made it 20-17, Flying Fleet. The Lions continued to compete, but the Flying Fleet closed the set out to win it 25-20 and earn the 3-0 victory.
Overall, the Lions had 27 kills, 24 assists, 2 aces, 3 blocks, and 27 digs.
Thijs Van der Wal led the way with 9 kills on the night, with
Lucas Nieves adding 6.
Oliwer Wrobel led the team in assists with 22, while Van der Wal and
Andrew Michael each recorded a service ace. Nieves and
Ed-Verian Basson each had a block on the night, while
Josh Staehler had 7 digs.
The Lions will be back in action on Friday at 7PM as they host Barton College.
