Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team hosted Georgia College & State University today in regional play. The Lions jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the early innings, but the Bobcats responded to tie things at 6-6 in the third inning. The Bobcats opened things up with an 8 run 8th inning to earn a 22-10 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 8-8 on the season.
The Bobcats got on the board first, scoring a run on 2 hits and an error in the top of the 1st. The Lions responded well with 5 runs on 4 hits to take the lead.
Jesus Cruz got things started with a single to left field and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch.
Landon Mokris walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd with one out.
Parker Westbrook took advantage by lacing a 2-run double to right field to tie the game at 1-1. The runners advanced on a wild pitch, with Mokris scoring to give the Lions a 2-1 lead.
Zachary Bergstrom walked to put runners on the corners and
Dee Oliver followed that up with a single to third base to bring home Westbrook, making the score 3-1, Lions. The runners advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by
Dobbs Bowden to centerfield to make it 5-1, Lions.
The Bobcats answered back in the top of the 2nd with 2 runs on 3 hits to cut the Lions lead to 5-3. In the bottom half of the inning, the Lions got back to work. Cruz walked to start the inning and
Brock Wollin doubled to score him to give the Lions a 6-3 lead.
Things got interesting in the top of the 3rd, as the Bobcats bats got hot to tie things up at 6-6, scoring 3 runs on 3 hits and an error.
The score stayed this way until the Bobcats took the lead in the top of the 5th, scoring 2 runs on 2 hits to make it 8-6. The Lions got back to work in the bottom half of the inning. After walks to Bergstrom and Oliver, Bowden doubled to left field to score both runners and tie things at 8.
The Bobcats kept it going in the top of the 6th with 2 runs on a hit to give them a 10-8 lead.
After a scoreless bottom of the 6th, Georgia College added 2 runs on 2 hits in the top of the 7th to go up 12-8. The Lions responded in the bottom half of the inning. Bowden got things started with a single to center. Cruz singled to center to move Bowden to 3rd. Bowden scored on a wild pitch to cut the Bobcat lead to 12-9.
The Bobcats opened things up in the top of the 8th with 8 runs on 5 hits and an error to go up 19-9.
In the top of the 9th, the Bobcats added a run to make it 22-9, but the Lions responded. Nick McCoy got things started with a single to third base.
Nick Finkbiner was hit by a pitch to advance McCoy to 2nd and
Austin Bourrie kept things going with a single to center field to score McCoy to make the final score 22-10.
At the plate,
Dobbs Bowden went 4-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound,
Noah Olson got the nod. He went 1.2 innings and gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits. He struck out two batters and walked two.
Will Sherman relieved him to go 2.2 innings. He gave up 5 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits. He struck out two batters and walked one.
Lucas Meehan was next, going 1.0 inning and giving up a run on two hits.
JJ Neal relieved him to face 3 batters, giving up one run on a walk.
Barrett Barkley came in to face two batters, walking both.
Zach Evans relieved him to face four batters, he gave up 2 runs on a hit and struck out one batter.
Gavin Richardson was next on the mound, facing 4 batters and giving up one walk and one hit.
Bubba Luke came in next to face 3 batters, giving up 2 runs on 2 walks.
Kody Collins came in to face six batters. He gave up 5 runs on 4 hits and walked one batter. Zach Gibbons came in next to face 5 batters. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits.
Jamin Smith closed out the game for the Lions, going 1.0 inning and giving up a run on a hit. He struck out a batter and walked one.
The Lions will be back in action on Friday at 3PM as they start a three-game series at University of Mount Olive.
