Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team hosted the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors this afternoon in conference action. The Lions got off to a great start, taking game one 5-1. Game two was a pitchers duel, with Emmanuel's
Carly Forrester throwing a perfect game in the Lions 1-0 victory.
With the sweep, the Lions improve to 12-13 overall and 7-1 in conference play.
GAME ONE –
The Lions got on the board first in game one with 4 runs in the 2
nd inning. Ciarra Passmore singled to start the at-bat.
Aggie Bennett hit into a fielder's choice with Passmore getting thrown out at 3
rd.
Arlie Gooden walked and
Ellee Varner singled to left field to load the bases.
Abby Rocco reached on an error to score two runs, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead. The runners advanced, with Varner scoring on a passed ball to make it 3-0, Lions.
Jaryn Gibson followed that up with a single to center to score Rocco to give the Lions a 4-0 lead.
The Warriors got on the board in the top of the 4
th, scoring a run on a hit to make it 4-1, Lions.
The score stayed this way until the bottom of the 6
th when the Lions got back to work. Bennett singled to start things off, advancing to 2
nd on a ground out. Varner singled to bring her home, making the final score 5-1, Lions.
At the plate,
Aggie Bennett was 2-3 with 2 runs scored.
In the circle,
Cassidy Jenkins gave up a run on 5 hits. She struck out 6 batters in 7 innings of work.
GAME TWO
Game two was a pitcher's duel, with both teams remaining scoreless through the 3
rd inning.
The Lions got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the 3
rd.
Jaryn Gibson started the at-bat out with a 2-out single to left field.
Gabby Buffington followed that up with a single to short stop to advance Gibson to 2
nd.
Reagan Garrett kept things going with a single to right center to score Gibson, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
The Lions would threaten to score more but would not get any more runs across and took the win, 1-0.
At the plate,
Ellee Varner and
Gabby Buffington both went 2-3.
The story of the game though came in the circle with freshman pitcher,
Carly Forrester, who threw her first perfect game of her collegiate career. Forrester threw 7.0 innings and gave up 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, and struck out 4 batters.
