Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Softball team hosted Young Harris in a midweek series today, falling to the Mountain Lions in both games, 8-5 and 13-1. With the loss, the Lions fall to 12-15 overall, 7-3 in conference action.
GAME ONE
The Mountain Lions got on the board first in game one, scoring 3 runs on 4 hits in the top of the 3
rd to take a 3-0 lead.
Young Harris added to their lead in the top of the 4
th, scoring 2 runs on 3 hits to make it 5-0, Mountain Lions. The Lions threatened in the bottom half of the inning, getting two runners on base but couldn't bring them across.
In the 5
th, the Mountain Lions added 2 runs on 4 hits to go up 7-0. The Lions responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Grace Ausborn singled to center field start the inning.
Ellee Varner got on base on a fielder's choice, with Ausborn getting thrown out at 2
nd.
Abby Rocco followed that up with a single to shortstop and
Jaryn Gibson reached on an error to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by
Gabby Buffington scored Varner to cut the Mountain Lion lead to 7-1.
In the 6
th, the Mountain Lions added a run on two hits to go up 8-1. The Lions answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Ciarra Passmore started things off with a single to third base. The runner advanced to 3
rdbase and scored on a 2-out single by Varner to make it 8-2, Young Harris.
After a scoreless 7
th for the Mountain Lions, the Lions rallied. Rocco started things off with a single to left field. Gibson singled to left to move Rocco to 2
nd base, and Buffington smashed a bases clearing homerun to left center to cut the Young Harris lead to 8-5. The Lions threatened to score more, but a pop up ended the inning, making the final score, 8-5 Young Harris.
At the plate, Ciarra Passmore was 2-3 with a run scored.
Reagan Garrett got the start for the Lions in the circle, throwing 3.0 innings. She gave up 3 runs on 5 hits and struck out a batter.
Cassidy Jenkins relieved her to pitch 2.0 innings. She gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits and struck out 2 batters.
Addison Hendrix closed out the game, throwing 2.0 innings and giving up a run on 4 hits.
GAME TWO
Young Harris got on the board first in the top of the 3
rd scoring a run on a hit to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lions tied things up in the bottom of the 4
th.
Gabby Buffington started the inning off with a double to left field. Ciarra Passmore followed that up with a double to center to score Buffington, tying the game at 1-1.
In the top of the 5
th, the Mountain Lions jumped out to a 13-1 lead, scoring 12 runs on 11 hits.
The Mountain Lions took game two, 13-1.
At the plate,
Gabby Buffington went 2-2 with a double.
In the circle,
Carly Forrester got the start going 4.0 innings. She gave up 8 runs on 10 hits, walking 2 batters.
Addison Hendrix came in to face 3 batters in the 5
th inning, giving up 3 runs on 1 hit.
Reagan Garrett closed out the game for the Lions, throwing 1.0 inning and giving up 2 runs on 4 hits.
The Lions will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Central, SC to take on Southern Wesleyan University at 2 & 4PM.
