Mount Olive, NC – The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball team traveled to Mount Olive, NC tonight to take on the Trojans of Mount Olive in conference action. The Lions battled, keeping each set close but the Trojans came away with a 3-0 win, 25-21, 25-22, 25-18. With the loss, the Lions fall to 4-20 on the season, 2-9 in conference play.
The Lions jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first set on a service ace by
Oliwer Wrobel. The Trojans responded with a 3-0 run to take a 4-3 lead. The Lions used a 3-0 run of their own, made up of kills by
Thijs Van der Wal and
Aidan Feeney to take a 7-5 lead. The two teams traded points until the Trojans used a 6-0 run to take a 20-15 lead. The Lions responded well to cut the Trojans lead to 24-21, but the Trojans scored the final point to take the set, 25-21.
In set two, the Trojans used a 4-0 run to take an early 6-3 lead. The Lions responded with kills by
Bryan Povea and
Lucas Nieves to tie the set at 8-8, taking the lead on an attack error by the Trojans. A 3-0 run for the Trojans would give the home team a 17-14 lead midway through and although the Lions would get within two points of the lead on a kill by
Carlos Guerrero, the Trojans would close out the set to win it, 25-22.
The two teams traded points and the lead to start the third set. Two kills by
Aedan Vanegas gave the Lions the 8-6 lead early, but the Trojans responded to take the lead. The Lions would get within a point of the lead, 14-13 midway through the set but a 3-0 run by the Trojans would push the Mount Olive lead to 17-13. The Trojans would close out the set strong to take the win, 25-18 and the game 3-0.
Overall, the Lions had 35 kills, 3 aces, 4 blocks, 34 assists, and 35 digs.
Aidan Feeney led the way with 12 kills for the Lions, with
Lucas Nieves and
Aedan Vanegas adding 6 a piece.
Oliwer Wrobel had 2 aces on the night and
Carlos Guerrero led the team in blocks with 3. Wrobel had 29 assists to lead the team, and
Josh Staehler had 11 digs.
