Franklin Springs, Ga – The Emmanuel Baseball team hosted Augusta University this afternoon in regional play. The two teams remained scoreless for the first three innings, with both teams scoring 3 runs in the 4
th to tie things at 3-3. The Jaguars scored 4 runs in the 6
th to jump ahead, and the Lions fell to Augusta, 9-5. With the loss, the Lions fall to 8-12 on the season.
The two teams remained scoreless until the top of the 4th where the Jaguars scored 3 runs on 1 hit to take a 3-0 lead. The Lions responded in the bottom half of the inning.
Zachary Bergstrom doubled to start things off, advancing to third on a balk.
Drew Knight walked to put runners on the corners and
Dee Oliver followed that with a single to 3
rd base to score Bergstrom, making it 3-1 Augusta.
Ryan Muniz kept things going with a single to center field to score Knight, cutting the Jaguars lead to 3-2.
Jesus Cruz walked to load the bases and Oliver scored a passed ball to make it 3-3.
The Jaguars answered in the top of the 6
th with 4 runs on 5 hits to take a 7-3 lead. The Lions responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the 6
th. Muniz started the at bat off with a single to left field. Cruz reached on a fielder's choice that put Muniz out at 2
nd.
Brock Wollin followed that up with a double to left field to score Cruz, cutting the Jaguar lead to 7-4.
The Jaguars kept things going, scoring 2 runs on 1 hit in the top of the 7
th to make it 9-4. In the bottom half of the inning, the Lions answered back scoring a run on a hit.
Zachary Bergstrom tripled to center start the at bat and
Austin Bourrie grounded out to 2
nd base to bring him home to make the final score, 9-5 Augusta.
At the plate,
Zachary Bergstrom went 2-2 with a double, a triple and 2 runs scored.
On the mound,
Noah Olson got the start going 3.0 innings. He gave up one hit, striking out 2 batters and walking 2.
Jamin Smith relieved him to face 6 batters. He gave up 3 runs on 1 hit, walking 3 batters and striking out 1.
Kody Collins was next in the circle, throwing 1.2 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 3 hits, walking 4 batters and striking out 3.
JJ Neal threw an inning, giving up 2 hits.
Bubba Luke relieved him to pitch an inning. He gave up 2 run on 1 hits, walking 2 batters and striking out 2. Zach Gibbons closed the game out for the Lions throwing an inning and giving up a hit. He walked one batter and struck out another.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Tigerville, SC for a three-game series with North Greenville University. Game 1 will be played on Friday at 3:30PM, with a doubleheader following on Saturday beginning at 12 & 2:30PM.
