Box Score 3 Tigerville, SC – The Emmanuel Baseball team traveled up 1-85 this weekend for a conference series at regionally ranked, North Greenville. The Trailblazers started the series off with a bang, taking game one 8-0. The Trailblazers took game two, 10-4 and finished off the three game series with a 9-2 victory. With the series, the Lions fall to 8-15 on the season, 2-10 on conference action.
GAME ONE
Game one started out as a pitcher's duel, with neither team scoring a run in the first four innings of play.
The Trailblazers got on the board first in the bottom of the 5
th inning scoring one run on 2 hits to take a 1-0 lead.
North Greenville opened things up in the 6
th inning, with 7 runs on 8 hits and an error to make the score 8-0.
The Lions would threaten in the 7
th inning, getting two runners on base but they couldn't bring them across.
The Trailblazers would take game one, 8-0.
At the plate,
Landon Mokris and
Parker Westbrook picked up a hit.
On the mound,
Noah Cantleberry got the nod. He went 5.0 innings and gave up 5 runs on 8 hits. He struck out 3 batters and walked one.
Lucas Meehan relieved him to pitch an inning. He gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, striking out one batter.
JJ Neal closed the game out for the Lions, throwing two innings. He gave up one hit.
The two teams will meet for a doubleheader tomorrow. Game two will start at 12PM with the final game of the series following at 2:30PM.
GAME TWO
The Lions jumped out to an early lead in game two.
Jesus Cruz walked to start off the inning and
Brock Wollin was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd.
Landon Mokris took full advantage, lacing a double to center field to score Cruz and give the Lions a 1-0 lead. A ground out scored Wollin to make it 2-0, Lions.
The Trailblazers answered back in the bottom of the 2
nd scoring a run on 2 hits to make it 2-1, Lions.
In the bottom of the 3
rd, North Greenville took the lead, scoring 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 errors to make it 4-2, Trailblazers.
The Trailblazers tacked on another run in the bottom of the 4
th to go up 5-2.
The Lions bats got to work in the top of the 5
th.
Ryan Muniz and Cruz walked to start things off strong. Wollin was hit by a pitch to load the bases and
Hayden Beall walked in a run to make it 5-3, Trailblazers.
Drew Knight walked in another run to cut North Greenville's lead to 5-4. In the bottom of the 5
th, the Trailblazers added 5 runs to their lead on 3 hits to make it 10-4, which would be the final score.
At the plate, four Lions collected a hit, with
Landon Mokris adding an RBI.
On the mound,
Hunter Pirkle got the start. He threw 4.0 innings and gave up 6 runs on 7 hits.
Hunter Parks relieved him to throw 2.0 innings. He gave up 4 runs on 2 hits. He struck out 3 batters and walked one.
GAME THREE
The Trailblazers jumped out of the gate scoring 2 runs on a hit in the bottom of the 1
st to go up 2-0.
The Lions got a run back in the top of the 3
rd.
Dobbs Bowden started things off with a single.
Brock Wollin doubled down the left field line to bring him home, cutting the Trailblazers lead to 2-1. In the bottom half of the inning, North Greenville answered scoring 3 runs on 3 hits to go up 5-1.
After a scoreless 4
th inning, North Greenville added 2 runs on a hit in the bottom of the 5
th to make it 7-1.
Jesus Cruz laced a double to left field to start the 6
th inning. Wollin singled up the middle to advance Cruz to 3
rd, and
Zachary Bergstrom flied out to left field to score Cruz, making the score 7-2, Trailblazers.
The Trailblazers added 2 runs to their lead in the bottom of the 7
th on 2 hits and an error to make the final score 9-2.
At the plate,
Brock Wollin led the way going 2-4 with an RBI.
On the mound,
Will Sherman got the nod going 3.2 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 6 hits and struck out 3 batters.
Gavin Richardson relieved him to face two batters. He gave up one run and walked a batter.
Zach Evans came in next, throwing 2.0 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and struck out a batter.
Hunter Maddox closed out the game for the Lions, throwing 2.0 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits and walked a batter.
