AUGUSTA, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team traveled to Augusta, GA this afternoon to take on the Augusta University Jaguars in regional play. The Jaguars got on the board first, but the Lions roared back with 3 runs in the 7
th to cut the Jaguars lead to 7-6. A 3-run 8
th inning for the Jaguars put Augusta up 10-6 which would be the final score. With the loss, the Lions fall to 17-19 on the season.
The Jaguars opened the scoring with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1
st inning on 3 hits to take a 3-0 lead.
The Lions answered in the top of the 3
rd.
Andrew Ferguson started things off reaching on an error by the 2
ndbaseman and advanced to 2
nd on the play. Ferguson advanced to 3
rd on a wild pitch and scored on a single by
Jesus Cruz to cut the Jaguars lead to 3-1. Augusta responded by scoring 3 runs on 3 hits in the bottom half of the inning to make it 6-1.
The Lions got back to work in the top of the 4
th.
Zachary Bergstrom singled to centerfield to start the inning.
Jackson Harvill followed that up with a 2-out single to the pitcher to advance Bergstrom to 3
rd. After Harvill stole 2
nd, Ferguson laced a single to centerfield to score Bergstrom and Harvill to cut the Jaguars lead to 6-3. Augusta answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run on 2 hits to take a 7-3 lead.
The Lions made things interesting in the top of the 7
th. Ferguson singled to the shortstop to get the at-bat started, advancing to 2
nd on a wild pitch. Ferguson advanced to 3
rd on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-4, Jaguars. Cruz walked and
Brock Wollin smashed a 2-run homer to cut the Jaguars lead to 7-6.
After a scoreless at-bat for the Lions in the top of the 8
th, the Jaguars added 3 runs to their lead in the bottom half of the inning to make it 10-6.
At the plate,
Andrew Ferguson was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's.
On the mound,
Noah Olson got the nod. He faced 6 batters and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits, walking 2 batters.
Jamin Smith relieved him to pitch 2.2 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and struck out 3 batters.
Will Sherman was next on the mound. He threw 2.0 innings and gave up a run on 2 hits, striking out a batter.
Lucas Meehan relieved him to throw 2.0 innings. He gave up a hit and struck out a batter.
Gavin Richardson relieved him to face 6 batters. He gave up 3 runs on 4 hits.
JJ Neal closed out the game to face one batter.
The Lions will be back in action on Friday at 6PM as they travel to Florence, SC for a three-game series with Francis Marion University.
