Due West, SC – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Due West, SC today for a conference matchup against Erskine. The Flying Fleet rallied to take game one, 8-6 but the Lions bounced back to earn a 3-1 victory in game two. With the split, the Lions now sit at 19-26 overall, 12-12 in conference play.
GAME ONE
The Lions got off to a hot start in game one, scoring 4 runs in the first inning.
Ellee Varner walked to start off the inning and
Abby Rocco singled to left center to advance Varner to 2
nd.
Jaryn Gibson kept things going with a double to left field to score Varner, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Gabby Buffington grounded out to score Rocco, making it 2-0 then
Vic Epps doubled to left center to score Gibson, to make it 3-0.
Ciara Passmore hit a single to score Epps to make it 4-0, Lions. The Flying Fleet responded in the bottom of the 1
st with a 2-run homerun to make it 4-2, Lions.
The Lions kept their hit streak going in the top of the 2
nd.
Grace Ausborn started off the at bat with a double to left field, scoring on a ground out to make it 5-2, Lions.
The Flying Fleet answered in the bottom of the 3
rd, scoring 4 runs on 4 hits to take a 6-5 lead.
The score stayed this way until the bottom of the 5
th when Erskine added a run to their lead on a hit to make it 7-5.
The Lions rallied in the top of the 6
th.
Grace Ausborn singled to left to start the at bat and scored on an error by the 1
st baseman to make the score 7-6, Erskine. The Flying Fleet added a run in the bottom half of the inning on 2 hits and an error to make the final score 8-6, Erskine.
At the plate,
Grace Ausborn went 2-3 with 2 runs scored and
Ciara Passmore went 2-4 with an RBI.
In the circle,
Cassidy Jenkins got the start going 4.0 innings. She gave up 7 runs on 8 hits and struck out a batter.
Reagan Garrett relieved her to pitch 2.0 innings. She gave up a run on 2 hits.
GAME TWO
The Flying Fleet took an early lead in game two, scoring a run on 2 hits in the bottom of the 3
rd to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lions responded in the top of the 4
th.
Reagan Garrett walked to start things off and
Ciara Passmore hit a homerun to score her, making it 2-1, Lions.
In the top of the 5
th, the Lions added to their lead.
Grace Ausborn walked to start things off, advancing to 2
ndon a wild pitch and stealing 3
rd. Ausborn scored on a wild pitch to give the Lions a 3-1 lead which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Ciara Passmore led the way going 1-2 with a homerun and 2 RBI's.
In the circle,
Carly Forrester got the nod. She pitched 7.0 innings, giving up 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 2 batters.
