MURFREESBORO, NC – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Murfreesboro, NC today for a doubleheader against Chowan University. The Lions took game one, 9-1, but fell to the Hawks in game two, 4-0. With the split, the Lions now sit at 17-22 overall and 10-10 in conference action.
GAME ONE
The Lions got on the board first in game one with three runs in the top of the 3
rd.
Grace Ausborn started things off reaching on an error by the shortstop and advanced to 2
nd on the throw.
Jaryn Gibson doubled to center to score Ausborn and make it 1-0.
Gabby Buffington reached on an error to advance Gibson to 3
rd.
Vic Epps kept things going with single to score Gibson, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.
Ciara Passmore singled through the left side to score Buffington to make it 3-0, Lions. The Hawks scored a run on 3 hits to make it 3-1, Lions.
In the top of the 5
th the Lions bats got to work.
Abby Rocco reached on an error and
Jaryn Gibson singled to center field to advance Rocco to 3
rd. Buffington singled down the left field line to score Rocco, making it 4-1 Lions. Epps walked to load the bases and Passmore walked to score
Reagan Smith (pinch runner) to make it 5-1, Lions.
Aggie Bennett was hit by a pitch to score Buffington to put the Lions up 6-1 and
Kelsey Lester walked to score a run to make it 7-1. Varner singled through the right side to score Passmore to make it 8-1 and Rocco closed out the inning getting hit by a pitch to score Bennett to make it 9-1 which would be the final score.
Jaryn Gibson and
Gabby Buffington led the way for the Lions at the plate, each going 2-3.
In the circle,
Cassidy Jenkins got the start going 5.0 innings. She gave up a run on 4 hits and struck out a batter.
GAME TWO
The Hawks got on the board first in game two, scoring 2 runs on 2 hits in the bottom of the 4
th to take a 2-0 lead.
Chowan added 2 runs to their lead on 3 hits in the bottom of the 6
th to make it 4-0 which would be the final score.
At the plate,
Abby Rocco went 1-3.
In the circle,
Carly Forrester got the start going 5.1 innings. She gave up 3 runs 3 hits and walked 2 batters. She struck out 2.
Addison Hendrix came in next to throw 0.2 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits.
