Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Soccer team hosted the North Greenville University Trailblazers this afternoon to open conference play. The match was highly competitive early, with both teams making key plays on the defensive end. A penalty kick taken by the Trailblazers late in the first half gave North Greenville a 1-0 lead, which would be the final score. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-3 overall, 0-1 in conference action.
It was a defensive battle from the start, with both teams making plays. Both teams shot 7 times in the half, with the Trailblazers leading the Lions in shots on goal, 5-3. A penalty kick taken by the Trailblazers in the 36
thminute gave North Greenville the lead heading into the break. In the half, Emmanuel goalkeeper, Ana Ramirez Cortes had 4 saves.
The second half saw the Lions kick things into high gear on the offensive end with 9 shots to the Trailblazers 7, with 5 on goal. Although the Lions had several chances, none of their shots crossed the net and the Lions fell in heartbreaking fashion to the Trailblazers, 1-0.
