Franklin Springs, Ga – The Emmanuel Women's Soccer team hosted Young Harris College tonight in conference action and their first meeting of The Roar War rivalry. The Lions took an early 1-0 lead, but a lightning delay put the game on pause late in the first half. The Lions came back out after the break focused and ready to play adding another goal to their lead to make the final score, 2-0! With the win, the Lions improve to 1-3 on the season, 1-1 in conference action.
The first half of play was competitive with both teams making plays. The Mountain Lions outshot the Lions, 10-9 but Emmanuel was more accurate with 5 shots on goal to Young Harris' 3. Emmanuel found the net first, with
Emily Chavez scoring at 29:43 assisted by
Jimena Rivera to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. A lightning delay paused the game, but the Lions kept their lead heading into halftime.
After the break, Young Harris took control of the ball, outshooting the Lions 10-3 with 5 shots on goal. It was the Lions, however that found the net once more, with
Veronica Calixto scoring at the 67:38 mark, assisted by
Jillian Aldrich to make it 2-0, Lions which was the final score.
Emmanuel goalkeeper, Ana Ramirez Cortes continued her dominant play, ending the night with 8 saves.
With the win, the Lions take a 2-0 lead in the inaugural Roar War Rivalry: The Battle for the Lions Cup.
Next up, Emmanuel will travel to Banner Elk, NC on Saturday to take on the Lees McRae College Bobcats at 2PM.
