Lions Sweep Young Harris to Take Roar War Lead 1-0!

Young Harris, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball team traveled to Young Harris, GA tonight to face the Young Harris College Mountain Lions in conference action. This game however, meant more as it was the teams' first meeting in the Roar War rivalry, The Battle for the Lions Cup. The first set was competitive, with Emmanuel coming out on top 25-20. The Lions carried that momentum the rest of the way to win the final two sets, 25-15, 25-13 and earn the sweep.  With the win, the Lions move to 3-3 on the season. 

The Lions jumped out to an early 5-1 lead on kills by Natalie Wilson, Skye Graham and Cailin Pritchard. Young Harris responded well with a 6-0 run to take a 7-5 lead. The two teams traded points and the lead until midway through the set when a 3-0 run by Emmanuel gave the Lions an 18-15 lead. The Mountain Lions didn't go away quietly, going on a 3-0 run of their own to tie it at 19-19. The Lions closed out the set strong on kills by Wilson and Graham, along with a service ace by Asia Queen to give Emmanuel the set, 25-20. 

The Lions carried their momentum into set two, starting off quickly 3-1. Young Harris kept things close, making plays to stay within two points of the lead until a 5-0 run by Emmanuel pushed the Lions lead to 14-8 on kills by Ellie Jackson and an ace by Marusa Pesut. The Lions controlled the set the rest of the way, scoring the final four points to earn the 25-15 win.

In set three, six straight errors by the Mountain Lions gave Emmanuel a 6-0 lead. Young Harris responded to cut Emmanuel's lead to 6-4 but kills by Graham and Wilson pushed the Lions lead to 11-6. An 8-0 run by the Lions, made up of kills by Jackson quickly made it 19-7, Lions and kills by Cailin Pritchard and Faith Kelly closed out the set to give the Lions a 25-13 win, and the 3-0 sweep. 

Overall, the Lions had 41 kills, 6 aces, 8 blocks, 38 assists and 62 digs. 

Natalie Wilson led the way with 12 kills and 2 blocks. Specialist of the Week, Asia Queen ended the night with 2 aces and 14 digs, while Marusa Pesut contributed 28 assists.
