Franklin Springs. GA – The Emmanuel Women's Soccer team hosted Erskine this evening in conference action. The matchup was competitive, with the Flying Fleet scoring the only goal in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead into break. The Lions made adjustments at the half and came out on fire, scoring 3 goals in the second half to earn the 3-1 win. With the win, the Lions improve to 2-4 overall, 2-2 in conference play.
The first half was competitive, with both teams getting good looks on goal. The Flying Fleet struck first, scoring in the 15
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions outshot Erskine, 10-3 with 5 shots on goal, but nothing broke through. Erskine took a 1-0 lead into the break.
After halftime, the Lions wasted no time making plays on the offensive end.
Brianna Nguyen found the net with 65:23 on the clock to tie the game at 1-1. In the 72
nd minute,
Jillian Aldrich scored via penalty kick to make it 2-1, Lions. Four minutes later,
Veronica Calixto added onto the Lions lead with a goal assisted by
Sydney Steele to make it 3-1, Lions, which would be the final score.
Aldrich and Calixto led the way with 2 shots on goal apiece, while Ana Ramirez Cortez led the Lions with 2 saves in goal.
Next up, the Lions will host UNC Pembroke on Saturday at 7PM.
