Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Soccer team hosted UNC Pembroke tonight under the lights. The matchup was a defensive battle from the start, with neither team finding the net in the first 45 minutes of play. The Braves took the 1-0 lead late in the 2
nd half to earn the win, 1-0. With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-5 on the season, 2-3 in conference action.
The first half saw the Braves outshoot the Lions, 9-5 with 4 shots on goal compared to Emmanuel's 3.
Aleigh Rutledge had herself a day with three shots on goal in the first half alone. Goalkeeper, Ana Ramirez Cortez ended the half with 4 saves and the teams headed into the break knotted at 0-0.
The second half saw the Braves pick things up offensively, leading the Lions in shots, 11-4 with both teams taking 2 shots on goal. Both sides continued to play well defensively, but the Braves found the net in the 72
ndminute to take a 1-0 lead. The Braves would hold on to take home the win, 1-0. Ana Ramirez Cortez ended the night with 5 saves, with
Aleigh Rutledge leading the Lions with 3 shots on goal.
Next up, the Lions will travel to Young Harris, GA on Wednesday for another installment of the Roar War against Young Harris. Kickoff is at 4:30PM.
