Lions Fall to Young Harris 62-40

YOUNG HARRIS, GA – The Emmanuel Women's Basketball team traveled to Young Harris, GA this afternoon to take on the Mountain Lions of Young Harris College in conference action. The Mountain Lions jumped out to an early lead and controlled the pace of the game the rest of the way, earning a 62-40 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 10-6 on the season. 5-5 in conference play. 

Lizzie Teasley and Kate Jackson got things started early for the Lions, giving Emmanuel a 5-0 lead out of the gate. The Mountain Lions responded quickly to take the 7-5 lead with 6:23 to play in the first. Young Harris pushed their lead to 7 points midway through the quarter, but a three-pointer from Kate Jackson cut the lead to 12-8 with 4:26 to play. The Mountain Lions would lead 14-8 at the end of the first. 

Young Harris opened up the second quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 19-8 lead. The Mountain Lions would push their lead to 14 points with 4:46 to play in the quarter, 28-14 but buckets from Carmen Cabello-Rivera, Naomi Roberts, and Teasley would cut the lead to 9, 30-21 with 50 seconds to play. At the half, Young Harris led 32-21. The Lions shot 42% in the quarter, connecting on 2-2 from the foul line. 

After the break, the Mountain Lions got off to a hot start, pushing their lead to 22 points with 6:13 to play in the quarter, 45-23. Teasley and Jackson each connected on three-pointers in the quarter, but the Mountain Lions shot 62% in the third, pushing their lead to 52-32. 

The Mountain Lion's hot shooting continued in the fourth quarter, but key buckets from Teasley and Hannah Harris held the Mountain Lion's lead to 22 points. Young Harris closed out the game strong to win 62-40. 

Lizzie Teasley and Kate Jackson led the way with 11 points a apiece. Natalee Goff led the team in rebounds with 5, while four Lions grabbed 2 assists. Kate Jackson picked up 5 steals on the afternoon.  

Next up, the Lions will host Francis Marion on Saturday at 2PM in the Shaw Athletic Center.
