Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Lacrosse team opened their season today with a tough test against the University of Montevallo. The Falcons got off to a quick start, taking a 12-1 lead into halftime. The Lions responded well in the in the second half of play, but the Falcons came away with a 21-6 victory. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-1 on the season.
The first period was all Montevallo, with the Falcons jumping out to a 7-0 lead.
The second period saw the Falcons extend their lead to 12-0, but the Lions got on the board with a goal from
Ryley Dowswell with 6:12 to play in the period, assisted by
Grant Anderson to cut the lead to 12-1.
The Falcons scored the first four goals of the third period to extend their lead to 16-1, but freshman,
Erik Lichtner answered by finding the net with 7:09 to play in the third, assisted by
Devin Gardner to make it 16-2, Falcons. Montevallo scored the next two to go up 18-2, but Lichtner found the net again, assisted by
Everett Muratori to make it 18-3, Montevallo to close out the third.
The Falcons scored first in the fourth period to push their lead to 19-3, but Muratori scored with 12:03 on the clock to cut the lead to 19-4. Following a goal by the Falcons to make it 20-4, the Lions netted the next two goals, with Lichtner (assisted by
Cole Stachniak) and Muratori (unassisted) striking again to make it 20-6, Falcons. Montevallo added a goal with 48 seconds to play to make the final score, 21-6.
The Lions were led by
Erik Lichtner with 3 goals, while
Everett Muratori added 2.
Grant Anderson,
Devin Gardner,
Everett Muratori, and
Cole Stachniak each had an assist. In goal,
Grady Magruder ended the afternoon with 10 saves, with
Nick Pilon getting 8.
Next up, the Lions will host William Jewel College on Wednesday at 5PM.
