GLENVILLE, WV – The Emmanuel Men's Wrestling team opened their season at the Pioneer Open hosted by Glenville State University. The Lions finished the tournament in 10^th place out of 15 teams with junior, Braydon Mitchell finishing in 5^th place overall in the 125 lb. weight class.

HIGHLIGHTS

• At 125 lbs. Braydon Mitchell finished the tournament with a record of 5-2. 
  • After a first-round bye, Mitchell lost by decision to Garrett Johnson of Glenville State University, 5-1. 
  • In the 2^nd round, Mitchell rallied to defeat Walter Hegedorn by fall (2:49) before beating Nate Wilhelm of Frostburg State in overtime decision, 11-8. 
  • Mitchell continued to shine with a majority decision win over Abdie Rodriguez of UNC Pembroke, 14-4 before taking his 5^th round match against Gavin Boland of Millersville by decision, 6-0. 
  • In the consolation semis, Mitchell dropped to Caiden Harbert of Fairmont State, 5-2 before winning the 5^th pace match over Malachi O'Leary of Glenville State.
• At 149 lbs. Christian Gordon finished the tournament with a record of 4-2. 
  • In the first round, Gordan defeated Ethan Lopez of Davis & Elkins by fall (0:28).
  • Next, Gordon took down Lincoln Botero of Millersville by majority decision, 13-0 before winning by fall over Cameron Massey of UNC Pembroke at the 6:19 mark.
  • Following a quarterfinals loss to by decision to Finn Merrill of U Indy, 11-9, Gordon picked up another win by fall over Shawn Young of Fairmont State (0:44). 
  • Gordon closed the tournament with a loss by fall to Logan Dawson of UIndy (4:55). 

Next up, the Lions will host the Georgia Open on Sunday beginning at 8AM in the Shaw Athletic Center.
