Lions Drop Series to West Alabama

Livingston, AL – The Emmanuel Softball team traveled to Livingston, AL to face the University of West Alabama in non-conference action. The Tigers bats got hot late in the first game to earn the 10-3 victory and followed that up with 10-2 win in game two. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-6 on the early season.

GAME ONE 
Emmanuel got on the board first with a run in the first inning. Grace Ausborn reached first on an error by the shortstop to start things off and Ashley Fountain followed that up with a two-out double to score her, making it 1-0, Lions early. The Tigers responded, scoring 2 runs on 3 hits in the bottom half of the inning to go up 2-1. 

In the 2nd, the Lions roared back. Kelsey Lester and Quinn Overby both walked to put runners on 1st and 2ndwith two outs. Ausborn took full advantage, lacing a triple to centerfield to score two runs, giving the Lions the 3-2 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, the Tigers scored 5 runs to take a 5-3 lead. 

After a scoreless at-bat for the Lions, the Tigers added a run to their lead on 2 hits to make it 6-3. 

The Lions picked up 2 hits in the top of the 4th but couldn't get a run across. The Tigers pushed ahead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 4 runs on 3 hits and an error to take a 10-3 lead. 

The two teams were scoreless the rest of the way, to give the Tigers the 10-3 victory.

At the plate, Grace Ausborn led the way, going 2-4 with 2 RBIs and a triple. 

In the circle, Reagan Beagle got the start throwing 3.0 innings and giving up 7 runs on 5 hits. She struck out 3 batters and walked 5. Addison Hendrix relieved her to face 4 batters, giving up 3 runs on 2 hits. Gillian Price closed out the game, throwing 2.2 innings and giving up 2 hits. She walked 2 batters and struck out two batters.

GAME TWO

 The Lions opened up the scoring early. Grace Ausborn singled to first to start off the inning and Quinn Overby followed that up with a single to 3rd to put runners at first and second. A sac fly from Ciara Passmore advanced Ausborn to 3rd and she scored on a sac fly by Ashley Fountain to put the Lions up 1-0. 

The Lions threatened in the 2nd, picking up two hits but couldn't get a run across. 

The Lions added to their lead in the top of the 3rd. Ausborn walked to start off the at-bat, advancing to 2nd on a sac bunt from Overby. Ausborn advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch and scored on a sac fly by Passmore to give the Lions the 2-0 lead. The Tigers answered back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 6 runs on 3 hits and an error to take a 6-2 lead.

The Lions picked up a hit in the top of the 4th, but the Tigers added 2 runs on 3 hits in the bottom half of the inning to go up 8-2. 

The Lions tacked on another run on a hit in the bottom of the 5th to make it 9-2.

The home team added a run in the bottom of the 6th to make the final score, 10-2. 

At the plate, Quinn Overby was 2-2 with Ashley Fountain and Ciara Passmore picking up an RBI each.

In the circle, Autumn Matherly got the start going 3.0 innings. She gave up 8 runs on 5 hits and struck out 2 batters, walking 2. Addison Hendrix relieved her to throw an inning. She gave up a run on 2 hits and walked 2 batters. Quinn Overby closed out the game in the circle, pitching an inning and giving up a run on two hits. She struck out a batter and walked one. 

The Lions will be back in action on February 18 as they travel to Hartsville, SC to face Tusculum. The first pitch of the doubleheader will be at 2PM.
