Milledgeville, Ga – The Emmanuel Softball team opened play today in a tournament hosted by Georgia College. Today, the Lions faced Georgia Southwestern State University in a doubleheader. The Surge took game one, 5-2 in a back-and-forth matchup. Georgia Southwestern State closed out the day with a 4-1 win.
GAME ONE
The Surge took the early lead in game one, scoring a run on an error in the bottom of the 1
st to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lions responded in the top of the 4
th.
Quinn Overby reached first on an error and
Gillian Price came in to pinch run for her.
Ciara Passmore doubled to left to score Price to tie the game at 1-1. A sac fly from
Carson Stowe scored Passmore to give the Lions the 2-1 lead. The Surge tied things up in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run on 2 hits to make It 2-2.
In the bottom of the 5
th, the Surge took the lead scoring a run on a hit and an error to make it 3-2, Georgia Southwestern.
In the bottom of the 6
th, the Surge tacked on 2 runs on 3 hits and an error to make it 5-2.
The Lions got 2 hits in the top of the 7
th but left both baserunners on base to end the game trailing the Surge 5-2.
At the plate,
Ciara Passmore went 1-1 with an RBI and a run scored and 2 walks.
In the circle,
Autumn Matherly threw 5.2 innings. She gave up 5 runs on 6 hits, striking out 2 batters and walking 3.
Quinn Overby relieved her to face a batter to close out the game.
GAME TWO
The Surge scored 2 runs on 2 hits and an error in the bottom of the 1
st to start off game 2 strong.
After a scoreless 2
nd inning, the Lions got on the board in the top of the 3
rd.
Jacie McCall singled to right field to start off the at bat.
Gillian Price singled to advance McCall to 2
nd and Lennox Roberts grounded out to score a run, cutting the Surge's lead to 2-1. In the bottom of the 3
rd, Georgia Southwestern scored 2 runs on 2 hits to take a 4-1 lead.
The Lions threatened getting runners on board in the 4
th and 5
th and 6
th and 7
th innings, but no runs crossed to make the final score 4-1, Georgia Southwestern.
At the plate,
Grace Ausborn went 2-2 and
Autumn Matherly went 2-3.
In the circle,
Reagan Beagle threw 6.0 innings and gave up 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits. She struck out 3 batters, walking 1.
