Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Baseball team hosted Anderson University this afternoon in regional play. The Lions jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning but the Trojans held Emmanuel scoreless the rest of the way, earning the 13-5 win. With the loss, the Lions fall to 4-7 on the season.
The Lions got on the board early in the first inning.
Dee Oliver walked to get things started and
Aidan Feather followed that up with a single to right field to advance Oliver to 3
rd.
Reece Kingeter was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and
Nick Madrigal took full advantage, lacing a single to right field to score Oliver, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
Will Phipps kept things going for the Lions with a single to center to score another run, making it 2-0 Lions and
Alex Espinoza knocked in three runs on a double to left center to push the Lions lead to 5-0.
The Trojans responded scoring six runs on five hits and an error in the top of the 2
nd to take a 6-5 lead.
The Lions threatened in the bottom of the 3
rd, getting two base runners on board, but couldn't get a run across to keep the score 6-5 Trojans.
After a scoreless 4
th and 5
th, the Trojans tacked a run onto their lead on two hits to push their lead to 7-5.
In the top of the 7th, the Trojans picked up another run on two hits and two errors to make it 8-5.
Anderson added five runs onto their lead on 3 hits to make the final score 13-5.
At the plate,
Alex Espinoza led the way with a 3 RBI double.
On the mound,
Lucas Meehan got the start, going 1.2 inning and striking out 2 batters. He gave up 4 runs on 2 hits.
Miles Dodd relieved him to throw 1.1 inning. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and walked a batter.
Logan Taylor was next in the game, tossing an inning. He gave up a walk in a scoreless inning.
Jacob Bodkin relieved him to throw an inning, giving up a hit and striking out a batter.
Blake Altschuler was next on the mound, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out a batter.
Joseph Rice was next, walking one batter and
Luke Hopper relieved him to throw one scoreless inning.
Zach Evans relieved him to throw 0.2 innings, giving up 3 runs on 2 hits and
Hunter Maddox closed out the game giving up 2 runs on a hit and two walks.
The Lions will be back in action on Friday as they head to Pembroke, NC to face UNC Pembroke in conference action for a three-game series. First pitch on Friday is set for 3PM.
